I know that every baby grows differently and it is really hard to predict a baby’s growth pattern. But I am trying to get some clothes on clearance for my son-to-be (due Halloween) and was wondering about other babies and what size clothing they wear. Like…how big was the baby when he/she was born and how long did they wear 0-3 months? At 4 months, what size were they wearing? Does anyone care to share what size their children are wearing, so I might have an idea what to buy in what sizes. You would think I would remember this stuff from my older kids…but no
My daughter is very tall for her age. She is in the 95th percentile. Anyways she was 8lbs 10ozs and 21in at birth. She started on 0-3mth at 2 months and then at 4 months she went into 3-6 and now at 6 months she is wearing 9-12mth baby clothes. Don’t even bother with newborn clothing. They are a waste of money. They grow so quickly. Just get a few 0-3 mth to get you by and then some 3-6 mth. Don’t invest alot of money until you can figure out your baby’s growth pattern. Just get a few things to get by. They don’t need alot of clothes. Get some onesies, warm sleep and plays and a few outfits. That is really all you need. Also get a warm outerwear set of baby ?overalls?
Newborn size will generally not fit a baby past 11 lbs. 0-3 months will fit to roughly 12-13 pounds.
Lots of moms buy just a couple of newborn and 0-3 months for photos and mostly 6 month sizes. Unless a preemie, babies grow into 6 month size pretty quickly.
As far as diapers, I would get no more than 2 packages of newborn size. If you can prevent the hospital and yourself from using ANY alcohol on the stump, it will fall off faster, so you don’t have to get the special diapers that leave space for the stump. Just fold it back or buy only one package.
My kids are not the norm. My son weighed 10lbs, 5oz at birth. He has always been at least double the size of his age…and never wore newborn clothes…except for the coming home outfit I literally squeezed him into. He is 12 months and wears from 24 month – 3T…but he’s huge. My daughter was similar, but not quite so big… but she too was off the charts for her length. She’s now 3 wearing a 5T.
you cant go wrong buying a load of onsies and body suits, they get used all year round.
my son was a month early – 6lb11
my son was in early baby for a month, newborn until 3months, 0-3 til 5.5months and is still in 3-6 at 6.5months.
for our son we got body suits and onsies to start. and the leaving the hospital outfit, scratch mittens, hats and socks. the rest we waited until after he came.
I have a tall, slender 7.5 month old. She needs size 9-12 month long pants. She’s just barely still able to wear 6-9 month onsies and PJs. Because she’s so slender, she can still wear 3-6 month shorts and t-shirts.
my daughter is almost 4 mo old and wearing mostly 6 mo clothes. she can still fit in some 3mo but i bought her her 6-9 for fall/winter.
my son will be a year old next week, but i’m going to try to remember. i think this is about how it was.
he was in preemie clothes for 2 weeks (he was 7 lb.s 4 oz. – wasn’t really a preemie, but newborn was huge on him)
he was in newborn up until he was about a month old so about 2 weeks.
he was in 0 – 3 month for about 1 1/2 months. same with 3 – 6 month.
at about 4 months he was in 6 – 9 month clothes until about 8 months old. he can still where some 12 month clothes, but most of his clothes now are 18 months.
i tend to try to buy for him a little bigger because he can still wear most clothes if they are a little big as long as they aren’t huge. if the clothes for him are too small he can’t wear them at all. i got shorts on sale a few weeks ago for next summer and i got them in 24 month, but i’m still kind of worried about how they will fit him. it’s great to buy clothes on sale for another season, but a pain to try to guess sizes, huh? good luck.
IMO, don’t bother with anything smaller than 0-3mos and only get enough of those for about a month, 2 max.
The 3-6 month clothes last a little longer, usually until the baby is about 4.5-5months.
The 6-9 months clothes last a lot longer (we still fit our 13mo son in some of the bigger onesies and pants).
9-12 months stock up on. Your child is going to wear this for a LOT longer than the others!
And then 12-18 months are when it gets weird. The complaint I hear from moms most often is that the baby fits into 18month shirts/onesies but 9 month pants (which are usually high tops)… for some reason, the 12 month pants seem too big on a lot of 1 year olds’ waists but just the right length.
Anyway, as far as what to buy NOW, a few 0-3mo clothes, nothing premie, enough 3-6 month clothes to last you for at least 3 months, 6-9 month clothes to last about 4 month, and 9-12 month clothes to last more like 6-7 months. Your baby will probably be in the 3 month age clothes before (s)he’s 2 months, 6 month age clothes by 4 months old (mine was in 6 mos clothes by 3 mos), and 9 months clothes by about 7 months old.
my daughter is 5 weeks, and still in newborn, i’ve noticed that most of the 0-3 months clothing is huge and will probably not fit until she is three monts. everyone who got me clothes got her 0-3 month things, but the thing is they got her sundresses and summer clothes as she ws born in august, but they wont fit her till nov or dec, make sure that whatever you get for him to wear as a newborn is newborn size, i wouldn’t buy any 0-3 month stuff unless it looks small enough to fit a newborn. as for diapers, if you find any size on clearance, grab them, just don’t get too too many newborn sizes, my daughter fit the newborn size for a week, ten was into size one, or if you buy a bunch of nb size, keep the reciept so you can exchange them for a bigger size if you need to
OK I will give two kids my son and grandson and show you that you cant stress on cloths just get enough in each size LOL
My son born 12-4 at 8lbs 6 oz is now 10 months and wears 9 months cloths “SOME” 6-9 things he has worn he can still fit. But the 12 months stuff falls off him and is huge. My lil bean pole.
My grandson born may at 6lbs I believe is now 4 months and is wearing size 9 months cloths and is in size 3 diapers with my son.
My son took till 10 months to double his birth weight and my godson doubled it by 3 months or so. As moms go to each others houses and need a change of cloths by chance I can help her but she can help me.
Now my nephw who was born a week after evan and smaller to has been in 12 months on cloths already. He has been nearly one month ahead after his 2 month point.
It all goes on the child and how they eat. Both my son and godson had reflux adn took meds my son would only do small amounts where godson is a cow. LOL hope this helps
